Baseball: Beavs top Ducks in 12 innings

OREGON STATE won again, although Beaver errors and wild pitches resulting in the outcome staying in doubt until extra innings. Jeff Hendrix's sacrifice fly with one out in the 12th inning proved to be the game-winner for second-ranked Oregon State baseball team over Oregon, 4-3, Tuesday night at PK Park.

Hendrix lined a 1-0 pitch from Oregon reliever Jordan Spencer into right field, enabling Logan Ice, who had singled to open the 12th, to score. It was Hendrix's third run batted in of the game.

Hendrix ended the night with two hits – both doubles – as the Beavers (35-8 overall) improved to 18-1 this season when he bats in the leadoff spot.

Andy Peterson, Michael Conforto, Trever Morrison and Caleb Hamilton all had two hits for OSU, which tallied 13 overall.

Conforto also made an outstanding throw from left in the eighth on an Oregon single, nailing Desmond Santos trying to score from second.

Scott Schultz faced only one batter over the limit in 4 1/3 innings of work. He picked up the win to improve to 6-2 on the year. The loss went to Spencer, who dropped to 1-1.

OSU scored its first run in the first when Andy Peterson singled home Hendrix, who had doubled to open the game. Hendrix later drove in two on a bloop double down the left field line in the fourth inning.

Oregon (34-14) scored their first run on a bases loaded wild pitch in the second. They then scored on a sacrifice fly in the third and an error in the fourth.
