Jarret Martin does his best impression of Wild Thing, while Corey Seager takes the day off.
Dodgers Spring Training Notes - 3/16/13
A few starts ago, Clayton Kershaw was angry with himself. Angry because of a start. In March. Not only is he a fierce competitor, he's also one of the best pitchers in the game. He proved that today.
Kershaw was on a 90 pitch limit, so all he did was hold Texas scoreless for 6 innings, surrender just 2 hits and strike out 6. That effort lowered his spring ERA to 3.79. And for good measure, he picked off speedster Lance Berkman.
Clayton will turn 25 on Tuesday, hitting that rental car milestone as the club's opening day starter. He will make two more appearances before camp breaks. If he keeps pitching like this, opposing teams will be clamoring for the offseason.
It was a routine play, a grounder up the middle and the shortstop dove. The shortstop being Corey Seager. The lanky fielder went down for the ball but didn't come up with it. Instead, he came up with a wrist injury.
A tough guy, Corey stayed in the game for the next play and ended the inning on a nice play up the middle. fielding the ball at second and throwing onto first for the 6-3 twin killing. However, as he was due to lead off the next inning, he consulted a trainer and ended up grabbing his bats and bag and left for the clubhouse.
I hate speculating on injuries but the fact that he stayed in afterward and made a play leads me to believe it can't be too serious. Let's hope that he only needs a few days off.
Zack Greinke and Carl Crawford threw the ball today. Not huge news but steps forward for both men. Crawford, still recovering from Tommy John surgery, played catch on the same day he appeared as a minor league DH. Greinke, who's battling elbow inflammation, tossed with no pain and should throw a light bullpen tomorrow. Good news for both, though neither are locks to be ready for opening day.
