In the first edition of Rockies Minor League Notebook, we take a look at who starred for the three Rockies affiliates who played on Sunday. The Sky Sox got a big home run from Mike McCoy in a 3-1 victory, Chaz Roe allowed one hit in Tulsa's win, and the Modesto lineup exploded against Visalia.

Colorado Springs Sky Sox
The Sky Sox have run their record to 7-3 this season, and have been getting some great pitching lately. Alan Johnson had another terrific start for the team, notching his second win, as he tossed 6.1 innings of one-run ball on Sunday. The right-hander struck out two, walked one, and allowed only five hits. Steven Register picked up his second save of the season, and the team got a great middle relief effort from Randy Flores, who had 1.1 innings of shutout ball in the team’s 3-1 victory over Las Vegas.

Matt Murton led the way offensively, picking up the only multi-hit game of the day. He scored once, walked, and raised his batting average to .410 on the year. Mike McCoy smacked his first home run of the season, a solo-shot in the third inning, and is batting .296 thus far. As a team, the Sky Sox batted .306, and got some contributions from nearly everyone in the lineup.

Tulsa Drillers
The Drillers won a pitching duel on Sunday, taking a 2-1 victory over Sam Antonio. Chaz Roe (1-0) took the bump for the Drillers, pitching very well, as he shook off some early season command problems. After walking five in his first start, Roe allowed only one hit through five innings of work, and struck out four. Thomas Baumgardner and Shane Lindsay combined to toss three innings of shutout ball, holding San Antonio at bay until Andrew Johnston came in to nail down his second save of the season. He made it interesting, but in the end, the Drillers ran their record to 6-4.

Jeff Kindel was the main bat in the Drillers lineup on Sunday, picking up three hits in four at-bats. The slugger is now batting .412 on the young season, and has at least one hit in his last six starts for Tulsa. The team struggled as a whole with runners in scoring position, going 1-11 in the game. Daniel Carte hit his first triple of the season, and Anthony Jackson had a double from his leadoff spot.

Modesto Nuts
The Nuts put up an eight spot in the third inning, then never looked back, crushing Visalia 10-2 on Sunday. It was Visalia’s first loss of the season, as the Rawhide came into the game with a 10-0 record. Brandon Durden was great on the mound for the Nuts, allowing only two earned runs for the second straight start, as he picked up his first win of the season. In two starts, Durden has a 3.27 earned run average, and has looked good in the early going. Austin Chambliss and Matthew Reynolds combined to go the rest of the way, allowing no runs in three innings of work. Reynolds has been great this season, posting a 1.59 earned run average in his first five appearances for the Nuts in 2009.

Every starter for the Nuts picked up a hit on Sunday, and some prospects had multi-hit games. Michael Mitchell was 2-5, blasting his first home run of the season, and really looked comfortable for the first time this season. Jay Cox picked up three knocks in the game, including his second double, and Maikol Gonzalez continued to mash since his call up from Asheville this week. It was his second multi-hit game in three appearances for the Nuts, and he also scored twice, stole a base, and drove in a run.
